There Really Is a Difference in Cancer Centers

Lehigh Valley Hospital's Cancer Centers Are Different. Here's Why.

Choosing a cancer center could be the most important decision of your life. Here's something to think about: Lehigh Valley Hospital's Cancer Centers offer a level of care you won't find anywhere else in the region. Here's how we do it.

We've Changed the Way Doctors Work Together

Teamwork is the heart of effective cancer treatment. Your care is not in the hands of just one person. Many cancer patients have several doctors from different medical disciplines.

Every cancer center wants those team members to work together. Lehigh Valley Hospital has made sure it can happen. Because research tells us that when doctors from disciplines work together from the very beginning, patients have better results.

We've figured out the best way to turn a group of doctors into a real team. In our Cancer Centers, all the doctors' offices are close to each other. A medical oncologist can consult with a radiation oncologist or a surgeon just by walking across the hall. You can see the benefit. The easier it is for your doctors to talk, the more likely they'll talk more often. And the more your team talks about your case, the better for you.

By combining their knowledge and skills early and often, your team will develop a plan that offers you the best chance of success.

We Have Experience in Your Kind of Cancer

We're the largest cancer program in the region. We're actually the fourth largest in the state. We cared for 2,700 new patients last year. And when you have cancer, big is better.

Big means we have experience with virtually every kind of cancer -- including yours. Big means we have the resources to develop specialty programs to combat breast, gynecologic, neurologic, lung and urologic cancers. Big means we can attract doctors who are leaders in their field, bringing us even more experience. And big means that each of our doctors makes all of us better.

Quality that We're Proud to Measure

We are the first Cancer Center in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey to receive Network Cancer Program accreditation, the highest available from the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer.

Our doctors are all board certified in at least one specialty. Our nurses are all certified in oncology. Our technologists are all certified in their respective fields.

We consistently receive high marks from outside groups. For instance, our radiologists read mammograms with much higher accuracy than the national standards. That means we find more cancers earlier, when they are more treatable.

Investing in Your Future

Doctors make the difference in cancer care. But doctors sometimes need advanced technology to give you the best care. Lehigh Valley Hospital invests millions in technology to make sure we offer you the greatest chance of recovery. Digital mammography, breast MRI and Positron Emission Tomography (PET scanning) help us diagnose cancer more accurately. Our radiation oncologists target cancer with powerful linear accelerators with options like Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT). The region's only hospital-based Gamma Knife® allows us to treat tumors deep inside the brain without a scalpel. And we continue to invest more every year.

Complete Means Complete

We care for you before, during and after the time when you have cancer. From helping you understand insurance paperwork to nutrition counseling, from rehabilitation therapy to home health care, from wigs and prostheses to support groups and counseling for your whole family ... we are here for you and your family every day of your cancer experience.

It's All About You, the Patient

Our Cancer Centers in Allentown and Bethlehem were designed with advice from patients and families. We have a commitment to maintaining a personal connection with every patient while we offer the most advanced approaches to successful cancer treatment. You will feel that commitment in our attentive service, whether it's valet parking or getting your test results back quickly. We really do care about making your life better today.
